Ever wonder why the BIG corporations and small businesses choose the colors they do for their logos, promotional products, and overall branding?
It involves color theory and the psychological effect it has on most of us. Think HP, Starbucks, Target, Chase Bank, IBM, Lance Armstrong, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
RED is energizing, warm, sexy, invigorating and irritating – it causes a rise in blood pressure.
PINK is calming as are the other “baby” colors such as pastel blue, yellow, green, and beige. These are used on prison cell walls to calm emotions.
GREEN is calming, invokes peacefulness, fertility, growth, self-respect and well being, as well as being considered a safe color when you are unsure which color to use in decorating or advertising.
YELLOW evokes feelings of happiness, joy, warmth, and energy.
BLUE is reassuring, stable, classic, trustworthy, and mature. According to the Color Matters website, blue is an appetite suppressant in large part because few edible foods are naturally colored blue. The color blue represents a variety of emotions from sadness to tranquility. It represents an entire genre of music in the blues typified by a feeling of depression. Picasso’s blue period monochromatic paintings, with titles like “The Tragedy” and “The Old Guitarist”, portray cold and somber figures.
